About 9000 years ago cultures in the Middle East began to perform well-developed religious rituals. The Halaf culture in Central Turkey produced fertility figurines around 7000 years ago. As in the Stone Age, the round shapes of the woman were accentuated and exaggerated to symbolize fertility and prosperity. On this fertility image, clothes, face and necklace are painted.
